Curbside Haiku
Via Flickr:
“Curbside Haiku,” a DOT safety education and public art campaign launched in November 2011, is a set of twelve bright, eye-catching designs by artist John Morse that mimic the style of traditional street safety signs. Each sign is accompanied by a haiku poem. The “Curbside Haiku” installation can be seen citywide on 144 signs to promote road safety. Each design and haiku delivers a safety message by focusing on a transportation mode. ~ www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/safety/curbside-haiku.shtml

Simmons Hall at MIT

When Massachusetts Institute of Technology commissioned Steven Holl in 1999 to design a new a dormitory for the school they had one goal in sight: that the spaces around and within the building would stir up interaction among students. While MIT focused on the building’s use and function, Holl aimed to create a memorable building. ~ www.archdaily.com/65172/simmons-hall-at-mit-steven-holl/

A Familiar Skyline Element
Via Flickr:
A signature element of the New York City skyline is the water tank, perching on top of all buildings over five stories, providing water pressure to the vertical city. The majority of these are still made out of wood, and are constructed and assembled in the same manner as traditional barrels. ~ d-build.org/blog/?p=2289
